A Healthy High Protein Low Carb Crab Salad Recipe

Everyday my meals always seem to focus on high protein and low carb, especially now that I am trying to practice a ketogenic diet. All of my dishes are protein and fats with limited carbs, so it’s been a mission of mine to find lots of different things I can make that taste good and are in line with my macros. I love crab, and after visiting Ocean City, Maryland a few summers ago I’ve been hooked! While I love a good crab cake, most of the time they include bread crumbs which is a no-no on the keto diet (no carbs), but having a crab claw salad is the next best thing. I like to find cans of crab claw either at Trader Joe’s or at Shop Rite and then using that to make a cold salad that I can eat right away.

While on a ketogenic diet you can have healthy fats and protein; so feel free to alter this recipe to use some organic mayo or even chop up some avocado to put on top. That’s the beauty of ketogenic diets; you can add healthy fats to your meals to make them taste delicious. For this particular salad I used the following ingredients:

1 can of lump crab claw

squeeze of 1/2 of a lemon

1 chopped red bell pepper

4 cups of organic spinach

chopped celery

diced black olives

3 tbsp of organic apple cider vinegar

salt & pepper to taste

I like to use organic apple cider vinegar as a salad dressing and it has lots of health benefits too. This salad is so fast to make, is fresh and tasty and is loaded with protein and low in fat. As I mentioned you can add some healthy fats on top or you can even sprinkle on some organic olive oil as well. It really is up to you based on your own personal macros for the day. Fish overall is very high in protein, usually zero carbs and depending on the type of fish it can be low in fat. Salmon is great on the ketogenic diet as well as tuna. I love adding fish into my diet since it allows me to change up my meals and small snacks.

Crab claw meat has many nutritional benefits like:

No saturated fat

No sugar

High in calcium

Very high in iron
