Easy and fast recipe for a healthy whole wheat pizza

Today was a lazy day and I wanted to make a healthy version of thin crust pizza. I was in the mood to veg out on the couch and eat some while watching a good movie (by the way if you are looking for a new flick recommendation –  “Pawn” was amazing. Rent it!) so I had gone to Target and got the following ingredients to make my pie for two people.

  • Whole wheat thin pizza crust by Archer Farms. Each package comes with two sheets of whole wheat crust.
  • Pitted small black olives.
  • Simply Balanced organic marinara sauce.
  • Artichokes in garlic and olive oil.
  • Fat free mozzarella cheese strings.
  • Sliced white onion.
  • Mrs. Dash seasonings.
  • Garlic seasoning.
  • Grilled chicken breast cut up into small pieces.

Here are the steps below with photos. In all this took about 20 minutes end to end to make. Oven is at 400 degrees. If you want more of a gooey cheese then I recommend you go with the shredded cheese like Weight Watchers.

Put the sheet on some aluminum foil on a baking sheet or tin. Pour pasta sauce in the center and mix around so it is evenly on the whole wheat crust. I used about 3/4 of the can.

I loved this sauce because it’s organic and it was not super high in sodium. Almost all pasta sauce is high in sodium so always look for one with as low as possible.

Spread it around but not too close to the edges or it will spill over onto the tin foil.

Slice up the onions thinly so they cook better. They add a nice flavor to the pie!

Since pasta sauce has some salt in it I always opt to use Mrs. Dash for my seasonings. I used both the italian seasonings one and the classic flavor.

Take the artichokes and chop them up. Drain out the extra olive oil and use at least one of the jars.

Lay out all the toppings evenly all over the pie, not just in the center.

I love black olives so I added them since they are a healthier fat. I used a knife in the can and chopped these use so they aren’t hole olives. These help to stay and cook better.

I had a grilled chicken breast so I chopped that up as well for some protein. You can skip this step if you don’t want meat on your pizza.

Next I didn’t have any shredded cheese so I took these fat free string cheese and pulled them apart and put them on the pie.

And this is before this goes into the oven. Put in and let sit for at least 15 minutes or until the edge of the crust starts to get dark and crunchy. Enjoy!
