Waiakea Hawaiian Volcanic Water Review

You might think that all water is the same, that it tastes the same and has the same health benefits. Of course we know that water is good for you, but it really is not all apples to apples. The folks at Waiakea sent me a case of their Hawaiian Volcanic water to test out and share on my blog and use during my workouts. I wanted to see if there was anything different about their water versus my usual purchases. I always buy spring water, never ever buy purified water, and love it ice cold. I use it for my BCAA drinks, for my coffee and for my protein shakes as well. I drink a ton of water and love Poland Spring, FIJI and Trader Joe’s spring water. I wanted to see how Waiakea would stack up against my usual suspects.

Waiakea is about $1.58, 17-oz. bottle. Their water is filtered through volcanic rock from Hawaii and boosted with minerals and electrolytes. They claim the contents of its water can help strengthen bone structure, lead to “more radiant” skin, hair, and nails, prevent free radical damage, help blood flow, and regulate the body. Those all sound like great benefits to me, but would the taste be good, bad or just about the same of other waters?

When I drank their water ice cold out of the fridge, with a little ice it had a very clean, pure taste. I couldn’t taste anything “off” and it was very crisp. Sometimes water to me can have a metallic taste, but their water did not. When used in my BCAA drink I couldn’t taste a difference, but that’s not such a bad thing.

About the product

2,400 miles from the nearest industrial landmass and surrounded by 10 million square miles of ocean, Waiākea® volcanic water originates in Hawaii through both snowmelt and rain on the pristine snowcapped peak of the active Mauna Loa volcano- one of the purest environments on Earth. Waiākea is then filtered through 14,000 feet of porous volcanic rock before re-emerging at its source, located at the eastern base of the Mauna Loa volcano in a secluded area surrounded by rich and bio-diverse forest preserves.

  • The conveniently small and lightweight bottle remains large enough to quench your thirst and deliver its natural crisp, clean taste with natural health benefits. Waiakea is the ideal size for runners, and works great in gift bags, conference rooms, and events of all types. It fits in cup holders too!

Overall I wouldn’t say I tasted anything “special” or different, but it did have a very pleasant, clean, pure taste to it which was refreshing. I also like that this company gives back and when I put my money into a company, it’s nice to know they are making strides to make a difference. Waiakea has many beneficial minerals including magnesium (5.2mg/L) and calcium (7.6mg/L). It is great to know I am getting in some added health benefits while I chug down liters of this everyday.

As always I aim to drink as close as I can to 1 gallon of water per day. Some days I reach that goal, some days I don’t but I try to drink whenever I can. Whether it’s plain water or flavored with my favorite BCAA powders, I try to stay hydrated for my body, skin, hair and muscles!

Thank you to the folks at Waiakea Water for sending some delicious hydration my way! How much water do YOU aim to drink each day and how do you motivate yourself to reach that goal?
