Get Clear Skin Using Coconut Oil and Baking Soda

For many years I have battled with the occasional break out and I’m always searching for a way to combat them. While there are many products on the shelf that target acne prone skin, they’re filled with lots of different ingredients that can actually cause more breakouts.  Using natural products, or natural ingredients, can truly make a big difference in your skin. After spending tons of money trying to find the best face wash for my skin I decided to look at making my own. If you suffer from acne, oily skin or blemishes learn how to clear your skin using coconut oil sugar and baking soda.

Every night before bed I use this tried and true face scrub that has made a world of difference in preventing breakouts and putting lots of moisture back into your face. All it requires is ingredients that you can find at any grocery store. With a combination of coconut oil, brown sugar and baking soda you can wash your face daily and help prevent breakouts. By using these ingredients you can get rid of any bacteria in your skin and clear out your pores without causing dryness or irritation.

Coconut oil has many great benefits for your skin including restoring moisture and killing bacteria. Many people believe that putting oil onto your face will make it oilier, but it’s actually the complete opposite. Adding oil to your skin prevents your skin from having to create its own oil and moisture. Using coconut oil on your skin makes it feel soft, clean and refreshed. It also helps to kill any bacteria in your pores, which is where most blemishes start.  Not only is it great for acne it’s also great for anti aging and it smells delicious. You can also use coconut oil in your bathwater to moisturize your entire body, as well as using it in your hair as a hair mask once a week to put moisture back into dull and lackluster hair. As you can see, coconut oil has so many amazing uses for your entire body!

By adding baking soda you will help to balance the pH level in your skin. Baking soda does not burn, sting or tingle at all and has truly made an improvement in my overall clear complexion. I recommend using baking soda twice a week on your face, otherwise you may find your skin to be a bit dry. On the days I don’t add the baking soda I just wash with coconut oil and brown sugar.

Adding brown sugar to your mix acts as a natural exfoliant by using the granules in the sugar to slough off any dry skin cells and clear out your pores. Because brown sugar is very finely ground it’s very soft and does not irritate your skin. Many exfoliating scrubs use large beads which can also be irritating to your skin, but sugar does not hurt your skin at all. Sugar is also full of glycolic acid, an alpha-hydroxy acid that is crucial for maintaining healthy skin and is usually a key ingredient in pricey products. Brown sugar is gentler, making it ideal for super-sensitive skin. The benefits of a brown sugar scrub extend not just to the body, but also the scalp.

How to make your coconut oil, baking soda and sugar face scrub:

To make my face wash our use 1 tablespoon of coconut oil and melt it in the microwave.  I then add 1 tablespoon of baking soda and then 1 tablespoon of brown sugar and mix it until it’s a nice consistency.  I do this all in a small mixing bowl and then use the mix on my face in circular motions. Work the mixture into your skin for no more than five minutes and then rinse off with cool water. Pat your skin dry with a soft towel and apply your moisturizer as you normally would in the daytime or evening.

Not only is this mixture great for your skin it’s also very inexpensive and great for your wallet. Purchasing three ingredients like these will last you for at least two months if not more. I have to say that if you have ever had the struggle of breakouts and just can’t seem to find a regiment to get your skin clear, try this. I highly recommend it and I can say this since I too have been in that struggle. It wasn’t until I started to experiment with natural products and natural ingredients that I saw a huge improvement in the maintenance of my skin. Let me know if you try this out and how it works for you.

Update: I have been using this every single night before going to bed to remove my makeup and clean my skin and it has not had one blemish since! Not only is it keeping my skin clear but it is much less oily and so soft!
