Healthy Summer Dinner Recipe – Beef and Turkey Burgers

For the longest time summer time to me was summarized by backyard bbq’s, corn on the cob and being allowed to play outside until the street lamps came on. One thing remains true today – burgers are still a really big part of my summer dinner recipes. What I love to do is make them myself using ground beef, turkey and/or chicken and a few other tasty ingredients. Making your own homemade burger patties is really easy to do and is a great option to cook indoors or outside on the grill.

For my burgers I used beef and turkey meat. It gives it great flavor to mix two meats but totally up to your preference which chop meat you go with. I use one of each packet to make 8-10 very generously sized patties. In a mixing bowl I added the meats, some chopped spinach, gargonzola cheese, salt and pepper. Super simple seasonings seem to do the trick for burgers. Then I made these babies in the oven since it was raining outside but I would much rather do these bad boys on an actual grill. IMG_7818

Set them at 400 degrees for about 25 minutes or until cooked all the way through the center. I love the flavors of the cheese and the combination of meats. I eat these without bread or a bun since I’m still following a ketogenic diet which is low carb. I can add cheese on top of these too and put over a hearty salad. Yum!

Now that I’m more concerned with sugar content/carbs than fat my salad dressing choices are more toward creamy high fat ones like Caesar or Parmesan types. I love this one I found at Shop Rite called Vino De Milo artichoke Parmesan dressing. It has no sugar added and is super creamy and tasty. Again on keto it’s all about low carb and low sugar so these are perfect.

Salad for me is always about tons of fresh ingredients. For this one I used romaine lettuce, red bell appear, black olives, cucumber and some crumbled goat cheese. It was so delicious!

What weekend would be complete without a little adult beverage. I love making sangria with fresh fruit and while I don’t eat the fruit it makes the mix taste delicious. I use red wine and some fruit, add in some brandy and club soda. That’s about it. No added sugar just the sugar from the fruit. This is super refreshing in the summer time.

When the weekend comes these are some quick options for a dinner outdoors or indoors. Cheers and on appetite!!
