Ketogenic Diet Healthy Grocery Shopping Haul

If you follow me on social media you know I’ve started a brand-new diet routine called the ketogenic diet and if you have questions about what that is I put up an entire blog post explaining the benefits that history and how to do it just search on my site for the words ketogenic diet or I’ll link it here.  If you’ve you’ve also been asking why would you such a diet my body fat is pretty consistently low around 15 to 18%. Long story short it’s something I wanted you to cut for the spring and summer and also I’m always curious to see how certain diets and my body will respond so it’s more of a test than anything and nothing necessarily long-term just yet. As I mentioned before I am not a nutritionist and my diets are specifically for me I don’t intend to push them or anyone else and if you do decide to follow one of my diet I suggest you do some research and even possibly talk to a nutritionist as well. Moving onto this weeks shopping trip I wanted to share with you what it looks like to purchase products for a ketogenic diet. As you will see most of the shopping consists of high-protein foods full fat foods and vegetables that have low carb indexes. Now that I’ve been doing this diet for two weeks now my grocery shopping trips are super easy and I can follow it very simply every week by just replenishing items I finished such as eggs turkey bacon or almond milk. This particular shopping trip I believe cost $100 and will last for quite a few days for both myself and my husband and cover all of our meals from breakfast to dinner to snacks.

The way you follow the ketogenic diet is to eat high-fat foods high-protein foods and limit your carbs to under 50 g of carbs per day. How many people think cutting out carbs is going to affect your work out it really hasn’t for me personally and I have just as much energy lifting and doing cardio as I did with eating lots of carbs. It is interesting however because many of the foods I purchased now may not be foods are used to purchase such as turkey bacon or mayo but in fact they are good for the diet that I’m on now and I’ve already lost 3 pounds and 1 1/2% body fat in two weeks. Again these choices are my own my own personal decisions and therefore I am not pushing any of what I do on anyone else just providing education based on my own personal experience.

Shop the outer perimeter of the grocery store because that’s where most of your items in your shopping trip are going to come from. Are usually start in the produce section and load up on green  leafy vegetables and foods that I know are on the lower index of the carb count of vegetables. You can purchase things like celery lemons asparagus cucumbers broccoli kale spinach. After that I head. over to the notes section and pick up some almonds and almond milk.
I have been loading up on lemons for lemon water as well as tons of avocados since they’re such a good healthy fat that you can use throughout the day either as a snack or on top of meals. I eat a half of avocado in the morning with my eggs and turkey bacon and then I use some avocado in the afternoon along with celery for a snack  as for dairy products make sure to go with full fat if you can and also read the labels to ensure that everything is pretty low in carbs. Also check the amount of grams of sugar you want to avoid that as much as possible so when I buy yogurt every yogurts going to have some amount of carbs but as long as it’s around 6 g or less it is OK just buy the plain Greek yogurt’s without fruit or sweeteners. Also on the star you can use mayo so I bought the organic kind and I still eat my nightly cottage cheese which is delicious and add some cinnamon and a handful of raw almonds and zero carb protein powder by isopure. On this diet I have to consume over 135 g of protein so I’m trying to make sure I’m getting it from great sources that are also low in carbs.

Eggs are a staple in the ketogenic diet for snacking as well as meals and for me every single day I have it for breakfast. We run out of eggs so quickly between the two of us so I’m constantly going back to the store to buy more cartons and I love the convenience of the already hard-boiled eggs by egglands best for grab and go snacking

I never used to eat a lot of chicken sausage or turkey bacon but on this diet I can actually been enjoying it it’s full of so much flavor and comes with a lot of protein and is usually zero carbs which is awesome  Many of the meals that I’ve been making on the ketogenic diet include ground meat like turkey chicken and beef. This makes meal super easy and fast to do and what I’ll do is add some seasoning and maybe throw in some asparagus and that’s really it I avoid adding any kind of peppers or onions or garlic which do you also have carbs and stick to very simple basic meals. The beauty of this diet is you can then throw some mozzarella cheese on top and melt it and it’s delicious When it comes to oils you can use olive oil or coconut oil so I like to buy the different sprays to coat the pans with or my slow cooker when I am making meals. Avoid oils like vegetable oil or canola oil and go for olive oil and coconut oil at all times. On the ketogenic diet you can actually use grass fed butter as well which is something that I never cook with but may decide to start adding to my diet now that I’m doing a keto friendly diet  I like to load up on organic broths we’re cooking especially when I’m making chili or ground beef or ground turkey and even some lean meat balls. They have less than 1 g of carbs if that at all depending on what type of broth it is.  Make sure when you’re purchasing milks to really read the labels and ensure that they come with less than 2 g of carbs otherwise it means they’ve been loaded with sweeteners and sugars and those are not good on the ketogenic diet. Also look on the labels to ensure that your almond milk does not include Carrageenan in as one of the ingredients which is a carcinogenic. Somehow that ingredient makes its way into a lot of dairy products but I avoid buying anything that includes it. Almond milk for me is great to make morning cappuccinos or in my protein shakes.

So far so good for me on this diet and I actually am enjoying the foods and eating and never feel hungry or starving or deprived.  The body is such a fascinating machine to think that they can use it on energy without the need for carbs is pretty exciting and I’m liking how I’m seeing my body change over time combined with the food and the workouts. If you have any questions feel free to comment down below and I’ll do my best to read and respond to everyone. As I mentioned I’m already seeing a good benefit from this type of diet and just leaning out and feeling a lot less bloated and great amounts of energy. I also have been getting amazing sleep too!
