My Guide to Matching Your Engagement and Wedding Rings

Planning for your wedding is incredibly exciting. You’ve got some huge decisions to make. While most of the decisions will only affect the one day, there are a few that will stick around. One of them is your wedding bands, which you’ll presumably be wearing for your whole marriage. If you’re going to wear them all the time, or most of the time, they have to look good. Most women already have an engagement ring too. So you might be concerned about matching the two rings. If you want to make sure they look perfect together, try using these guidelines.

Sparkle Yes or Sparkle No?

In the past, most wedding bands would have been plain gold. Some might have had inscriptions or perhaps even a single stone. Now there’s so much choice, and the same goes for your engagement ring too. The question is, if your engagement ring has a sparkly stone, should your wedding band have any? If you have just a single stone in your engagement ring, you might choose to ramp up the sparkle with a few more in your wedding band. But if your engagement ring is sparkly enough, perhaps a plain band is best to tone it down.

Colored Stones

Are you a non-traditional gal who hasn’t gone for a diamond? If you chose a colored stone, you might want something colorful for your wedding band. You can match your band to your engagement ring with the same gem. Consider using some smaller stones in your wedding ring to complement the larger one in your engagement ring. If you think the color could be a bit too overpowering, get something that has white stones too, whether they’re diamonds or something else.

Unusual Shapes and Statement Rings

Not everyone wants a plain old diamond ring. If you’ve chosen something a bit more unusual for your engagement ring, you won’t want something plain for your wedding ring. You can look at some great shapes that twist and curve, like some of the Tacori wedding rings. If your ring is an unusual shape, try to get a wedding band that will fit into the curve of it. Otherwise, they might sit strangely and leave a gap. Consider the style of your ring if it’s vintage or modern. A super modern engagement ring will look beautiful with an equally modern wedding band.

Metals and Finish

You will also probably want to give the material and finish of your wedding band some thought. Do you wish to pair a platinum engagement ring with a yellow gold wedding band? You might like the two colors together, but it’s always best to compare. You should think about the finish of your rings too. If one looks hammered and organic, it might not work to have the other smooth and shiny. Don’t forget to consider these factors when you’re picking out your wedding band.

Your engagement ring and your wedding ring should look great next to each other. Remember to see what they look like together before you make a decision.
