Review of Tara Smith Hair Care Line

Tara Smith Hair Care – www.TaraSmith.com Review

As many of us know it is very difficult to find hair care products that you love so much you buy over and over again. I know I have been guilty of it; trying out a new shampoo and conditioner and styling products every time I go to the store. I am always thinking that another brand might be better, but there have only been a few products I have really fallen in love with over the years of trying out so many brands. In the last 2-3 years I have been making a conscious effort to buy my hair and skin care products from natural brands as well as those who are cruelty free and do not test on animals. Those are two things that are important to me and to be honest, I prefer when beauty products include more natural ingredients than one’s I can’t pronounce. That is why I was especially excited to get reached out to from the Tara Smith brand to test out some of their products for a review on my blog. The exciting news is Tara Smith’s hair care line is coming to the United States!

Not only do I love anything related to beauty, especially hair care, but I am always in the market for a new brand to learn about. Before I was contacted for this review, I have to say I had never heard of Tara Smith products, so this was a great learning experience for me and fun to test things out on my own locks. I made sure to use the products so that I know first hand how they feel, smell, work so that I can share that with my readers. I am happy to say this line did work out really well for my hair and I was so happy to have been able to try it. For my hair type the yellow bottles worked best “Gorgeously Gentle” which is meant for hair that needs a bit of TLC, like mine, from processing, blow drying, flat ironing, you name it! If you wash your hair almost everyday like I do (because I work out daily and sweat a lot, that means my hair needs washing almost each day!) this duo of shampoo and conditioner would be great for you. I will get into detail a bit more below but overall I give this line an A for quality, design, mission statement and selection. The line is a bit pricey, but if you already spend a ton on hair care items that don’t work great, you would want to invest in these because they really are great quality.

Tara Smith (tested on film stars, not on animals) www.TaraSmith.com

Tara smith is a professional hair stylist to the stars. She’s run here fingers through the tresses of some of the most beautiful people on the planet. Smith released her own line of natural and organic hair products in Summer of 2015. She tests her hair products on stars, not animals – a phrase that I love! Some beauties she works with are Rosario Dawson, Jessica Alba, Joely Richardon, Demi Moore and Lake Bell. As more and more women (and men too) are becoming aware of the ingredients going into their bodies and onto them, it’s great to see more natural and organic options for beauty. Right off the bat if all these beautiful A-Listers trust this lady with their hair, a gal from NJ can too.

Her Facebook page gives a great insight into who Tara is stating, “Tara began working alongside her mother at her salon, originally her grandmother’s and was passed down from generation to generation, in Leicester England at a very young age. Fueled by her passion and desire to one day become a world-renowned hairstylist, Tara began sharpening her skills while working at her mums salon. Today, her extensive experience and unique skills have led her to a glittering global career as one of the most sought after hair stylists in the world!”

So let’s get into the products, what they are used for and then also a giveaway for my lovely readers so you can try out some of these products as well. The contest will be live until 8/31/2015 for you to enter for a chance to win. First Impressions:

Packing/Design – I love love love the design of these products! Not only because they have beautiful images of exotic birds, but the colors are breathtaking. For me this would catch my eye if I was walking down an aisle looking for new hair care products to try. It also speak to me that this brand is animal friendly, a huge factor to me. If a line is going to be vegan it ought to look as beautiful as these are. The tops/caps of each bottle color coordinate with the image on the packaging which looks bright and colorful. I also love that Tara uses her signature as her branded logo, it adds a nice personal touch. After viewing her website I saw the quote “Birds of a feather flock together” and I began to think this might be the inspiration also to the use of the birds on her packaging…

Quality/Results – When I have bought natural hair care products recently I am never completely blown away by their shampoo. It always seems to miss the mark on making my hair feel clean, without feeling either really stripped of moisture, still kind of greasy or just overall not soft and smooth. Many do not lather up (due to removal of chemical ingredients that actually create a lather effect) but Tara Smith’s products actually left my hair feeling refreshed, clean and not dried out. I have naturally dry hair/damaged from coloring and hot tools, but I also have oily scalp so it’s hard to find something to do the cleansing piece, the moisturizing piece but without doing it too much that my hair gets even more weighed down and oily. These products left my hair feeling manageable, clean, soft, healthy and moisturized!

Selection – Tara Smith makes hair care products for 4 different hair types and each has it’s own look and feel to the design. For those looking for more moisture and to awaken dull hair, for gals with curly hair, volumizing products for thin hair and ones for those who need strength and shine. Each “hair type” has its own shampoo, conditioner and then a line of specific hair styling products.  Those four styling products are a serum, cream and gel and gloss. They help to combat issues like frizz, shine, control and moisture.

Products I used: I used the Gorgeously Gentle shampoo and conditioner which were amazing. The shampoo is a clear color and the conditioner is a creamy white color. Both are not sticky, tacky or have any noticeable fragrance to them. The shampoo lathered up very well and I did not have to shampoo twice to remove dirt and oil from my hair and scalp. I was surprised how clean my hair felt, as with some other organic shampoos I tend to feel like it doesn’t cleanse as well as I’d like. The conditioner was great; not super thick and a little went a long way. I focused on putting this on my ends and left it on for about 5 minutes to soak into the hair and when I rinsed my hair was super soft! It was not tangled at all and felt really refreshed, I really enjoyed using this duo.

After my hair was brushed through I used I the Brilliant Thickening Cream which is meant to help with volume either for wet hair or when you are about to blow dry. I put a small amount into my hair and worked it root to end. It was very liquidy, not thick like most volume creams which I liked. When they are super thick they tend to weigh down my hair a lot. I liked the results using this and it kept my hair full without feeling oily or full of heavy products. I will be using this combo moving forward!

To sum it all up…the Tara Smith line is really high quality, professional hair care products. 1. I think the gorgeously gentle would work great on my hair as well, I sadly blow dry and flat iron more than I should. I have been using the sexy hair line for a little while now but love to mix it up!

  2. I would love to try these products! My hair is complex. It is dry and brittle, but I have an oily scalp that gets an awful buildup with normal shampoo. I’ve tried every product in the store, and often, change every time I go to the store, like you. Thanks for the opportunity to win these products!

  3. I would love to try these products! I have dry, brittle hair, but have oily scalp that gets build up from almost every product I have tried. I, like you, try a new product almost every time I go to the store. I have yet to find something that is just right. I would love to try these out! Thanks for the opportunity to win these products!

  4. I have fine, frizzy, damaged hair. Looking for a product that will fix those problems. I currently use sebastian prodcuts and Wella, but I am keen to try new things.

  5. I have fine, low posterity wavy hair. I’m using Nature’s Gate Nourishing shampoo and conditioner right now.

  6. I perm and color my hair, so I use products that extend the life of the color — I try different products all the time, but I stick to ones for people who color their hair.

  7. I would love to try these products out. I have fine hair as it is but I have a lot of it so with washing my hair post gym workouts so often, it needs good nourishment from quality products. Would love to try these out as I think they fit my needs perfectly!

  8. I have long fine hair and am constantly switching up shampoos & conditioners to try to find something that not only combats knots but also gives me volume. Not an easy task! Wondering if a combo of some of these would help. The bottle are gorgeous.

  9. Thank you for the opportunity to win! I have literally never won anything! Im excited to receive my products and hope to find a forever brand in them! Thanks again!
