There is nothing better to curb a sweet tooth that using nature’s own fruits like strawberries. With natural sugar, it can add a nice addition to your day as a treat or dessert. I love to use fat free plain greek yogurt, it’s actually the only kind of yogurt I buy. It’s much better to use fresh fruit to make it flavorful than using the fake fruit flavors in the other yogurt cups. They add a ton of sugar and ingredients that you don’t need. I always opt to use the greek plain fat free yogurt as the base and then add some flavored protein powder to it to make it taste really good. Today I bought some fresh strawberries and cut them up and decided to add them to my yogurt. I always try to buy organic when it is available and usually I can find them at Trader Joe’s; that’s where I buy most of my food now a days.

When using fresh berries in my yogurt parfait I like to use strawberry flavored protein. Strawberry flavor goes really well with fruits like strawberries, blackberries and raspberries. Right now I have a tub of True Athlete Strawberry protein which is a hormone free, natural and no artificial colors or flavors protein powder. For two scoops you get 20 grams of protein and only 110 calories. For this yogurt parfait I only use 1 scoop since two would make it much too dry and not smooth.

I like to add some raw unsalted almonds for some healthy fats and also dust some cinnamon into the yogurt parfait as well. This is a great option instead of loading up on the store made parfaits which are always very high in calories. Some parfaits that you buy in the store can be as much as 500 calories! Avoid the ones with granola and fake fruit, they are just not a healthy option. Always go with the greek plain yogurt and toss in some almonds and some fresh fruit – and I always add a scoop or 1/2 a scoop of protein powder. For those who don’t like the taste of plain yogurt, adding the protein makes it taste like a mousse!
