Tis the Season for a Latte Warm Drinks – What’s the best one for your diet?

If you’re looking for a healthy hot drink, keep on reading before ordering at your next coffee shop

As the weather starts to cool down the drinks start to heat up, especially in these parts…when it’s time to grab for a warm beverage which would be the best one for you? If you are looking for nutritional information on your favorite winter drinks you can always go to the company’s website. I typically always go for either a skim latte or a skim cappuccino. Both of these are under 125 calories and as long as you don’t add extra milk or sugars you can enjoy these without much guilt. As for the frapuccinos or caramel lattes, you might want to skip those all together. Many of those beverages are loaded with whole milk, sugars and syrups which quickly add up to sometimes 350 calories in a cup! I don’t know about you, but I’d like to use those calories for something else that is edible, not a beverage. I was very excited to see that the Panera Bread by me now has their holiday cups out and they always make me feel so excited for Thanksgiving and Christmas time.

Below is some of the nutritional information that I got from the Panera website based on a few of their hot coffee beverages. Some of the numbers may scare you so be forewarned. This is why I usually always go for the skim cappuccino first and then if I want something a bit more filling I will go with a skim latte. I always skip the flavored syrups all together since they are loaded with empty calories. I also like to dash a bit of cinnamon on my drinks which helps to level out any sugar or insulin spikes.

Sometimes I enjoy running out at lunch to grab a quick coffee, so my go-to is usually a Panera skim cappuccino <3

Skim Cappuccino – espresso with foamed skim milk and a cap of foam. it is more airy and light and never fills up the entire cup. this is great when i want a bit of a caffeine boost but not a tummy full of milk and liquid. I always add some cinnamon and 1 packet of raw brown sugar (no splenda or equal!). at only 120 calories this is a nice treat for me to get when I need a pick me up or to crave a bit of a sweet tooth.

Caffe Mocha – now compare the above with this beverage, which can be a popular one during the cold weather season. Freshly brewed espresso, foamed milk and chocolate topped with whipped cream and a drizzle of chocolate sauce. The drizzle sauce just scares me. This drink weighs in at a hefty 360 calories!

Caffe Latte – another good option when ordered with skim milk. Freshly brewed espresso with foamed milk. This one is much heavier than the cappuccino so I will go with this if I am a bit hungry also and want something to fill me up. It is also only around 120 calories so it’s a better option than other drinks. Untitled-11
